Directions to Chalet B, Coteau Royale Châtel
From England take the toll motorways to Annemasse, which is at the south west end of Lake Geneva, going via Rheims, Dijon, and Bourg en Bresse. From Annemasse take the road to Thonon, and then follow instructions as below. It is also possible to go via Dole, Pontarlier and Vallorbe and get on the Swiss motorway north of Lake Geneva, for which you will need to buy a vignette at the border. The latter route is shorter but the roads are not as fast. Timewise there is not a lot of difference
From Geneva airport you have 2 options. If you have hired your car from the Swiss side of the airport, your car will have a vignette allowing travel on the motorway. Get on the motorway outside the airport following signs for Lausanne. Keep on this motorway past Lausanne and Montreux, always following the motorway signs for ‘Simplon and Grande St Bernard’ passes. Do not turn off for Bern. It can be confusing at some of the junctions, as the junctions sometimes occur in ‘the fast lane’. Go past Aigle and turn off at the Monthey junction where there are signs for the ‘Portes du Soleil’. Follow the road through a tunnel signposted to Champery/ Val d’Illiez. At a village called Troistorrents is a junction, turn up the hill on the main road to Morgins. Keep on this road through Morgins and go over the pass and down into Chatel. You are almost at the chalet! Follow directions below.
The second option to Châtel from Geneva airport is as follows. If you have hired a car from the French side of the airport you will have to take this option. Go down the hill into Geneva following signs for ‘le lac’, the lake. Go around the head of the lake following signs for Thonon and Evian, until you get to Thonon. Take the ring road, which will be signed Morzine/ Châtel/ ‘Stations de Ski’. Follow these signs for a few miles until you reach a roundabout- the road splits here – take the D22 to Abondance, and keep on this road until you reach Châtel. At the church in Châtel you will need to turn around, through !80 degrees, retrace your path for a little way and follow the instructions below.
At Châtel church, take the D22 to Abondance, called the Rue de Thonon. After 300 yards there is a mini- roundabout, go straight on past the ‘Caisses Centrales’ on your left. Shortly afterwards on your right , there is a road signed ‘Le Roitet’, opposite the chalet ‘l’Echo des Montagnes’. This is the ‘Rue de Roitet, the chalet is almost at the far end of this road on the right.Take this single track road for about a mile or so, ignoring any roads off to your right. You go past some telephone masts, a chalet called ‘le Torrent’ and over a bridge. Keep on this road until you come to some grey garages with 2 chalets on the top. There is a sign, on the garage front, saying ‘ Reserve copropiete Chalets de Coteau Royale’. There are 2 covered parking spaces on the lower level marked ‘Chalet B’. Be very careful in this parking area, there is adequate room, but turning is a little tight. It is best to get help parking up as it is possible to scratch your car unless you take care.. Behind and above the garage are 6 similar looking chalets. Chalet B is the second from the right as you look up from the road. Go up the steps and along the path behind the chalets. Our chalet has a sign next to the door, on the lower left side , saying ‘Chalet B’.
Try ‘Google maps street view’ for a practice prior to going out- it can be helpful to orientate yourself, and it is possible to see the chalet from this site, so you know what to look out for when you get there. 1110 on street view 'Route de Roitet' is the approximate address outside our garage. This is adjacent to the pin on the Google map on the 'Resort' part of our site, which is interactive
Should you get lost the tourist information is helpful.
