The Resort
Châtel is a picturesque mountain town, which is ideal for both skiers and summer holiday makers. It is situated at an altitude of 1200m. on the French \ Swiss border. It rarely takes longer than 90 minutes to travel from Geneva airport by car. The channel ports are around 500 miles away, or about 8 hours driving time, mainly along autoroutes. The southern border of Lake Geneva is about 45 minutes away, where you can visit the chic spa towns of Thonon and Evian, or you can visit Montreux or Lausanne in Switzerland within the hour. There are lots of excursions into the mountains, and the chalet contains a folder with information regarding the many day trips. In addition, in season, the tourist office publishes a weekly diary of local events put on for visitors. There are many excellent local restaurants, both in the resort, and down the valley towards Abondance. There is a microbrewery, in a bar called ‘le fer rouge’ on the way to ‘la Chapelle dAbondance’. It brews 5 real ales and is worth a visit.
A luxurious new swimming pool has been built in the heart of Châtel, and features indoor and outdoor pools, sauna and leisure facilities and a restaurant. This will be open for both the summer and winter seasons.
